So Much to Celebrate!

Our 8th grade football team won the SWOC beating Mount Healthy on October 17. The team is coached by Mr. McDonnell and Mr. Comstock. Our 7th grade football team gained a share of the SWOC title by beating Mount Healthy as well on October 17. The team is coached by Mr. Wells and Mr. Stratton. Our 8th grade girls volleyball team finished second in the SWOC volleyball tournament. The team is coached by Mr. Klinedinst. 8th grader Colton Hunt won the junior high boys SWOC cross country meet. Team is coached by Mr. Hendal and Miss Butts. Congratulations to all the student-athletes and their coaches on these outstanding achievements! We are proud of all of you!

EMS on Brief Lockdown This Morning (October 18)

As a precautionary measure, our Edgewood Middle School was placed on a brief lockdown this morning when a student created an outburst in one of the halls, prior to class change. The lockdown lasted approximately 7 minutes. The situation was quickly resolved by the Administrators at EMS. No weapons were involved, all students were safe during the lockdown and classes have resumed as normal. As a reminder, when a school is on lockdown, students are restricted to their classroom and are not released from the classroom until lockdown has concluded. No one is permitted into the school during a lockdown.

Girls 7th & 8th Grade Basketball Open Gyms Dates

Mark your calendar! There will be an Open Gym on Tuesday, October 30, Wednesday, October 31, and November 1 from 2:30 - 4:00 pm for 7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball. Tryouts will take place Monday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 7 from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. The Open Gym and Tryouts will take place in the gyms at EMS. Hurricane Relief Donations Needed

EMS Student Council is collecting hurricane relief supplies based on information obtained from Matthew 25 Ministries. The collection will run approximately one week (9/27 to 10/4) and primarily consist of cleaning supplies. Students who donate items will be recognized by placing a handprint with their name on the EMS Unity Tree. Donations from community members are also welcome and can be dropped off to the middle school between 7:30 am- 2:30 pm, Monday- Friday to Mr. Stratton. Here are some of the needed items:

Medication Permit Information for Students

A medication permit form will need to be completed for the 2018-2019 school year for any prescription and non-prescription medication that needs to be taken by a student while at school. This permit must be completed by the student's parent and physician.

Mental Health Series: Anxiety & Depression

A FREE Mental Health Series, hosted by Fairfield City Schools, is open to all parents and adults who work with youth in our community. This event is scheduled on September 13. Drag Race Competition Winners

The final Drag Race competition for the 8th grade Automation and Robotics class took place on May 22. Students designed, built, wired, and programmed a car to go as fast as possible for 20 feet using only the available VEX parts. Each period had a double elimination competition and the winners competed in the gym. The representative from each period were: period 1: Luke Smith and Zack Cornett period 2: Josh Geisz and Matt Laimo period 3: Alexis Ledford and Aniston Hunter period 4: Nate Martin and Jaden Andino Period 3's Alexis and Aniston won and represented semester 2 in the Championship. They raced the winner of Semester 1, a car designed and built by Mackenzie McIntosh and Auna Fenstermacher. The 2017-2018 champions are Mackenzie and Auna. Their car, named Pheobe, crossed the line before their Semester 2 competition. Congratulations to all the competitors and the champions!

Typically, a Job Fair is where individuals interested in working for a company can speak to a recruiter about employment opportunities. As part of a career exploration project, our EMS students were challenged to conduct a Reverse Job Fair.

8th Grade Career Exploration Trip to Butler Tech

Our EMS 8th Graders had the opportunity to visit Butler Tech recently to experience hands-on career training. Wyatt Wilhoit had a chance to try out his construction abilities; Madison Dirksen had a chance to teach pre-school physical education; Radical Rothermal made a commercial arts video and Paeton Emmert spent time giving a perm in the Cosmetology lab. Students will be conducting a Reverse Career Fair on May 22, at EMS, to present their projects on careers they have explored.
